Gravity Adventure pioneered tubing on the Palmiet River and have been running it for over 20 years now. We can truly say that we are ‘the original and the best’. We are privileged to be a licensed operator on this awesome river.
The Palmiet River tumbles through the Fynbos covered mountains of the Kogelberg Nature Reserve, just outside Kleinmond, about an hour’s drive from Cape Town. We use specially designed ‘Gekos’ – This innovative inflatable craft was been specially developed for the Palmiet and is now used countrywide. If used in a reclining position, it provides a comfortable way to drift lazily along the pools and channels of the river and if used facing forward, an exciting way of tackling the small rapids.
During Autumn and Spring, we run fun and exciting white water tubing trips and in the low water Summer months, there is nothing better than a relaxed float along this beautiful river.
The Palmiet River Experience is suitable for all ages from 8 up and no previous experience is needed – we provide qualified guides with an intimate knowledge of the river and its environment and instruction on how to steer your craft.
We meet in the morning in the Kogelberg Nature Reserve. You’ll change into your wetsuit and get kitted out with a PFD and helmet before walking the 1 km to the river. You’ll spend around 4 hours on the water before walking back to the meeting point. All boating and safety equipment is provided including PFDs (‘lifejackets’) and helmets. Wetsuits can be hired if needed. Since this excursion takes place in a sensitive natural environment, group size is limited to 24 people per group day. The trip price includes permits, all equipment and APA qualified guides. It doesn’t include the CapeNature Conservation fee (currently R60.00 per adult and payable on entry) – if you have a WildCard or are staying in the reserve, you don’t pay this.
Minimum group size is 8 guests for the activity to go ahead. If the amount is not reached, we will contact with you to reschedule.

The Palmiet River tumbles through the Fynbos covered mountains of the Kogelberg Nature Reserve, just outside Kleinmond, about an hour’s drive from Cape Town. This pristine natural environment forms the backdrop to our Palmiet River Experience. A friendly stream during the summer months, winter rainfall turns the river into an exciting white water adventure. Our trip are designed so that we can offer our clients an exciting experience in both seasons and enables us to run almost all year round (excluding late summer when the river is too low)
Great experience, thank you! Although the river was very low and we got stuck on rocks, we loved the whole experience. We can suggest that you offer bigger sizes wet suits. Also, to inform people of the hike to get to the starting point. The two guides were great. We highly recommend this lekker local experience! - Kobus
