Johannesburg Half Day Tour

Johannesburg

Activity Description

Learn more about the political history of Johannesburg with a tour of Constitutional Hill, take a lift to the ‘Top of Africa’ at the 50-storey Carlton Centre and experience the vibrant cultural diversity of the people of Jozi.

Johannesburg CBD was once the epicenter of the gold rush era in the late 1800s and is rich in history. Impressive heritage buildings that are now national monuments tell a tale of an inner city that was once the most significant economic hub in Africa. It slipped into decline in the 1990s but extensive urban renewal projects have breathed new life into the central business district.

Depart from Johannesburg

Day 1 – Johannesburg Half Day Tour
Nelson Mandela Bridge
After pick-ups, we make our way to Constitutional Hill in Braamfontein for a guided tour of this iconic institution. Constitution Hill is a living museum that tells the story of South Africa’s journey to democracy.

The site is a former prison and military fort that bears testament to South Africa’s turbulent past. Today, it’s home to the country’s Constitutional Court which endorses the rights of all citizens.

We cross over the striking Mandela Bridge on our way into Johannesburg CBD. Named in honour of Nelson Mandela, the 284-metre long bridge is the largest cable-stayed bridge in South Africa and links two significant business districts.

Your guide gives you an orientation tour of Johannesburg, pointing out historic landmarks and buildings which includes Newtown Precinct, Mary Fitzgerald Square, Gandhi Square and Luthuli House.

It was an excellent tour given by Chpo. He was on time, drove carefully and showed me all the highlights in Johannesburg. He was very knowledgeable and made it a very interesting tour. The Old Fort prison in Constitution Hill was great to see. I felt safe the whole time. It was our first time there. I would highly recommend this tour. - Heather
