Terms of Use
The Rental Provider is Scoot Electric.

Rules and Safety Guidelines
For your safety and enjoyment, please carefully read and comply with the following terms and conditions when renting and operating electric scooters ("The Scooter"). Your signature (“The Rider”) shall be deemed to be confirmation that you have read this document and that you fully and completely understand the contents and that you consider yourself bound thereto.

Compliance with City Regulations
Failure to comply with city regulations regarding the use of The Scooter on beaches, promenades, or public pavements or roads may result in fines imposed by local authorities for which The Rider will be liable.

Rider Obligations
The Rider SHALL at all times:
Ride only in designated bike lanes and/or paved bike trails, where available.
Always ride in the same direction as traffic.
Be cautious of parked vehicles, as doors may suddenly be opened.
Look over The Rider's shoulder and take utmost care before making turns or lane changes.
Carry valid photo identification.
Carry relevant health and/or travel insurance information.
Use recommended routes to minimise exposure to automobile traffic and maximize The Rider’s safety.
Be responsible. Keep a proper look out.

The Rider shall NOT:
Ride in or on areas which are prohibited by law.
Allow anyone other than me to use the scooter.
Operate The Scooter if The Rider has any physical or mental condition that prevents safe operation.\
Operate The Scooter while carrying any items that impede The Rider’s ability to ride safely.
Operate The Scooter while exercising or controlling pets, including walking dogs.
Operate The Scooter under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any other substance.
Use mobile phones or other electronic devices (e.g., calls, texts, music) while riding.
Wear headsets, earplugs, or earphones covering or inserted in both ears while operating The Scooter.
Allow another person to use The Scooter or carry passengers.
Violate applicable national, provincial, or local laws and regulations.
Operate The Scooter during adverse weather conditions, including but not limited to hail, dust storms, fog, heavy rain, or lightning.
Operate The Scooter if The Scooter is defective, malfunctioning, or otherwise requiring repair.
Continue operating The Scooter if a defect or malfunction occurs.
Use The Scooter for racing, trick riding, jumping, stunts, or similar activities.\
Use The Scooter for commercial purposes.
Tow, pull, carry, or push any person or object with The Scooter.
Remove, modify, or alter any accessories, parts, or components of The Scooter.

Rental Period and Fees
The Rider agrees to return The Scooter within the agreed-upon rental period. If The Rider keeps The Scooter beyond this period, The Rider will be subject to additional rental fees and/or penalties.

Battery Range and Responsibility
The range of the electric scooter and the battery level is to be managed by and is the sole responsibility of the rider. It is the rider’s responsibility to:
Check that the scooter is fully charged before use.
Monitor and maintain the battery level during the rental period.
Ensure the scooter is charged if rented long-term.
Should the scooter run out of battery, it is solely the responsibility of the rider to ensure that the scooter is safely transported and returned to Scoot Electric before the rental period ends.

Scooter Malfunction
If the scooter stops working, it is solely the rider’s responsibility to safely return the scooter to Scoot Electric before the rental period is over.

Accessory Responsibility and Fees
The rider is solely responsible for looking after any accessories provided, including the charger (if applicable), helmet, and bike lock. Loss or damage to these items will incur the following replacement fees:
Charger: R750
Lock: R400
Helmet: R500
The rider’s deposit may be used to cover these fees.

Deposit
The rider is required to pay a R500 deposit upon rental. This deposit may be used against any loss, damage, or breach of the rental agreement. This deposit is not a cap on liability and the rider may be liable to pay more if the loss or damage exceeds this amount. If the deposit is paid via card, it may take up to 10 business days to reflect upon return.

Tracking
For security, safety, and rental compliance purposes, The Rider acknowledges and agrees that The Scooter may be equipped with GPS tracking devices, allowing the rental provider to monitor their location during the rental period.

Liability & Responsibility
The Rider assumes full financial and other responsibility for any loss, theft, damage, or accident involving The Scooter howsoever caused during the rental period. Costs incurred for repairs, replacement, or claims arising from such incidents will be charged to The Rider and return of the deposit may be withheld to cover such costs. If the cost of repair or replacement exceeds the deposit, the Rider will be liable for the additional amount.

Reporting Requirements
The Rider shall immediately notify The Rental Provider on: +27 72 963 8970 if The Scooter becomes damaged, defective, or involved in any accident or incident during the rental period. Failure to report promptly may result in additional charges/damages for which the rider will be strictly liable.

Helmets & Protective Gear
Helmets are compulsory. The Rider shall be solely responsible for complying with applicable local helmet laws and regulations.

Inspection & Refund Policy
If during the Rental Period The Scooter is returned damaged, The Scooter will be inspected by the Rental Provider to verify its condition. Should the inspection confirm The Scooter is damaged, the Rental Provider reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to provide either a replacement scooter or issue a refund. Availability of a replacement Scooter cannot be guaranteed.

Indemnification Clause
The rider by his/her signature indemnifies and holds harmless the Rental Provider, its agents, employees, and affiliates from any claims, liability, damages, or expenses which may arise from any cause whatsoever, including but not limited to the rider’s misuse of The Scooter, violation of these rental rules, negligence, or breach of any applicable laws or regulations.

Emergencies & Assistance
In case of emergency or if immediate assistance is required, The Rider must promptly contact Rental Provider's on +27 72 963 8970. For serious accidents or urgent medical situations, The Rider shall first contact local emergency services before notifying the Rental Provider.

Security & Theft Prevention
The Rider shall securely lock and properly safeguard The Scooter whenever it is unattended. The Rider is responsible for ensuring that The Scooter is parked in safe and permitted locations. In the event of theft or loss, The Rider will be liable for the full replacement value of The Scooter.

Acknowledgment
By renting and operating The Scooter, The Rider acknowledges that he/she has read, understood, and agreed to abide by these Terms of Use and Safety Guidelines. Non-compliance will result in fines, penalties, and/or the termination of the rental agreement.
