Ocean Wonder is an owner-run service that offers boat-based Ocean Wildlife Encounters. These intimate trips don’t follow any set route. Instead, I’m guided by my understanding and ongoing observation of this environment, the creatures in it, and the ever-changing water and weather conditions.
These trips are all about finding and, where possible, interacting with some of the amazing creatures that frequent the rich waters around Cape Town.

Expert Guided trips
There’s no set route. We’ll go where we can to find our oceanic friends. Normally it’s in the Table Bay area. I’m guided by local knowledge of the weather, the ocean and the patterns and movements of creatures in it.
Incredible environment
Besides the amazing animals that we encounter, it’s a really fun boat ride in an incredibly beautiful environment. The views of Table Mountain and Robben Island are amazing too.
The boat – Ocean Wonder
Ocean Wonder is a 7.2m Ballistic semi-rigid inflatable (SRI), powered by 2 × 90hp Yamaha motors. She’s very safe and has been approved by The South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) as a commercial charter boat, allowed to carry up to 11 passengers. She’s furnished with all the required safety equipment and more.
Physical requirements
Pregnant women and people with back injuries that might be aggravated by the boat should be aware that it can be a bumpy ride.
We had the pleasure of experiencing Ocean Wonder during our stay in South Africa, and what an incredible adventure it was! For the three of us, it was undoubtedly one of the most memorable boat trips of our lives. The wildlife sightings certainly lived up to our expectations, with some truly wonderful encounters with marine life. ?? But beyond the wildlife itself, we were equally impressed by the passion of our captain, Paul, and by his fascinating explanations and incredible knowledge of the marine environment. It was an experience that was both incredibly exciting and deeply moving, and we can't wait to share our photos and videos from this unforgettable adventure with you. ?? A huge thank you to the entire team for such a fantastic experience! See you soon, Chloe, Alexandre & Robin [?] - Chloé
A fantastic two hours spent with an incredibly knowledgeable guide. We saw: Dolphins, Southern Right Whales, Penguins, Seals and even a Portuguese Man of War. Highly recommended. - Willem
I had a really amazing time out on the water, and the expertise from the skipper meant the experience was far more enjoyable than without this experience - Matthew
This ocean safari was something else. You expect nice views and maybe some wildlife... but this went way beyond that. We even saw a whale splashing. And not even in the season. One of those moments where everyone just goes quiet for a second. Pure luck, but also a sign you're in the right place. What made the whole experience click was Paul. Relaxed, no rush, no forced excitement. Just a calm, confident vibe that fits perfectly when you're on holiday and don't want stress. At the same time, his knowledge and passion for sea life really came through. Not in a heavy, lecture kind of way, but in a way that pulls you in. Even our 9 year old daughter was fully engaged the whole time. That says enough. If you're looking for something real, not overhyped, this is it. - Michel,
I love this tour so much. It's always amazing and different. On this trip we saw a baby whale suckling on its mama, sleeping seals all over the ocean surface, and seals playing with their octopus food. Whenever I have a friend visiting this tour is a must. We had such a great time. - Katie
