THE GIANT XL SUP PADDLE TO THE PENGUINS
When was the last time you did something for the first time?
Welcome to the Cape Town Giant XL SUP Penguin Paddle Experience
Get ready for a truly unique Cape Town adventure as we paddle together on one of our giant XL stand-up paddleboards from Seaforth to the famous Boulders penguin colony.
No experience? No problem.
All ages are welcome, and you can stand, kneel or simply sit back and enjoy the ride.
MEETING LOCATION
Shark Warriors HQ – Seaforth Beach, Simon’s Town
Driving through Simon’s Town towards Cape Point, descend the hill past the Naval Medical Centre and look out for the Seaforth & Penguins sign on your left.
WHAT TO WEAR
You know Cape Town — the weather can change in a heartbeat!
Generally, costumes/swimwear or gym wear are perfect.
We recommend bringing:
Lightweight jacket
Cap
Sunglasses
Sunscreen
If the wind is blowing, you may get a little wet. And if it’s particularly chilly, we can fit you with a wetsuit.
SAFETY FIRST (but we ‘almost’ never cancel – we play it by conditions, and if the wind is too strong, we do a downwind paddle)
Your safety is our priority.
Lifejackets and paddles are provided, and every necessary safety precaution is taken throughout the experience.
Before we launch, your experienced coach and guide will give you a full safety briefing and paddling instructions.
WHO CAN DO IT?
Everyone!
All ages are welcome and no previous paddling experience is necessary.
You don’t have to be super-fit or an experienced paddler. We take things at your pace.
CAPTURE THE EXPERIENCE
We take photographs during the experience, but you’re also welcome to bring your own camera or mobile phone.
Waterproof phone pouches are available to purchase.
Just remember — you’re on the ocean, so protect your phone! (We do sell water-proof pouches at the retail store)
WHERE DO WE GO?
We launch from Seaforth Beach in front of Shark Warriors HQ.
After a safety briefing and some basic paddling instruction, we traditionally paddle out towards Arc Rock before heading down towards Boulders, home to Cape Town’s famous African penguin colony.
Once everyone is comfortable on the board, we encourage you to stand up — but there is absolutely no pressure!
You can stand, kneel or sit and simply enjoy the experience.
Along the way, your experienced waterman coach and guide will share stories and knowledge about the incredible marine environment around us, including:
African penguins
Seals
Whales
Dolphins
Marine and coastal birdlife
The history and stories of the sea
And if the wind isn’t playing along…
Cape Town weather sometimes has other plans!
If conditions aren’t suitable for our usual route, we can transport the group approximately 3 km to Windmill Beach and launch there.
From Windmill, we’ll enjoy a downwind paddle past Boulders, around Arc Rock and back to Seaforth.
We work with the conditions — not against them — to make sure you have the best possible experience.
⏱️ HOW LONG IS THE EXPERIENCE?
Approximately 90 minutes
That’s 90 minutes of ocean, adventure, incredible scenery, wildlife and plenty of laughs.
